Predator Fishing the Russian Way

The cheburashka belongs to the category of so-called flex heads. This means the weight is connected to the hook via a moveable metal clip, which brings several practical advantages. You can pair the chebu with standard worm hooks or offset hooks, letting you adapt your rig to the conditions at hand. If a hook dulls during a session, you simply swap it out - something that is not possible with a conventional jig head, which would have to be discarded entirely.

Found a lure that is working but the weight is not quite right? No problem - you can quickly clip on a heavier or lighter chebu weight without changing anything else. This flexibility is particularly useful when fishing tidal venues, where the current can shift noticeably over the course of a day.

The chebu weight itself is made from either lead or tungsten and features a channel into which a precisely fitting stainless steel clip is inserted. Before sliding the clip through, you attach the hook to it. Once the clip is pushed through the weight and tied to the leader or clipped into a snap, the whole rig sits rock solid and will handle even powerful fish during a determined fight. All of this is made possible by the clever design of the cheburashka.

Keep It Moving

The articulated connection between weight and hook offers a number of genuine advantages. The lure plays far more freely than it would on a conventional jig hook - a difference that can make all the difference on a slow day. Predators can also inhale the lure much more easily on the take, because they do not have to shift the dead weight of the head at the same time. When fishing heavy weights in strong current in particular, this can have a dramatic effect on your bite-to-land ratio. Finally, the flexible link between weight and hook reduces the risk of a hooked fish levering itself free during the fight.

The result is simply more fish in the net. As you can see, there are plenty of good reasons to give the cheburashka a go.

Frequently asked questions
Roughly the same weight as a jig head in the same situation. Because the cheburashka is connected to the hook via a flexible clip, predators can take the lure far more easily - so you can actually go a touch heavier than you might with a standard jig head.
You can fish virtually any soft lure on a cheburashka, but it works particularly well with pintails, crayfish imitations and creature baits.
Tungsten is the ideal choice. It offers the highest density, which gives you the best bottom contact, and the material is exceptionally hard, transmitting the clearest feedback about bottom structure.
You can fish it just like a jig head, or use smaller twitches. Let it crawl along the bottom and pause it regularly.
No - a standard zander, perch or finesse rod will do the job perfectly well.
