UV Protection
UV protection is becoming increasingly important for anglers. Alongside traditional sun cream, there is also a wide range of clothing and accessories that protect both skin and eyes - including polarised sunglasses, buff tubes, gloves and shirts with UV protection.

Increasing UV Radiation

It is no secret that UV radiation has grown in intensity. The stronger it becomes, the greater the risk of sunburn and longer-term skin conditions such as skin cancer. To reduce this risk, you need to protect your skin - either with specialist sun cream, with appropriate clothing, or ideally both combined.

Sunglasses with UV Protection

Modern polarised sunglasses - that is, sunglasses with a polarising effect - also provide protection against harmful UV radiation. This is particularly important at the waterside, where reflections from the surface amplify the damaging effect. Our eyes are extremely sensitive, and any damage done cannot be undone, so wearing polarised sunglasses near water should be standard practice.

Buff Tubes

Buff tubes have become indispensable for many anglers - and it is easy to see why. They protect against sun, wind, insects and cold. They are incredibly versatile, and most of them look genuinely smart too.

Shirts with UV Protection

Originally rooted in the tournament scene, performance shirts have become a firm favourite with many anglers. They protect against UV radiation, and the lightweight material is extremely comfortable to wear - making them hard to beat in warm conditions.

Gloves

Often overlooked, yet among the most exposed parts of your body when you are out in the sun: your hands. In tropical climates - especially when fishing at sea - UV protection gloves have long been standard kit. They are becoming increasingly common closer to home too, and every angler is well advised to give them serious consideration.
