Drop shotting is one of the most effective approaches in lure fishing - and the right hook and rig setup make all the difference to how well it performs.

Anglers targeting pike in particular need a hook that can be rigged easily with a wire or titanium leader. Standard drop shot hooks simply aren't suited to that. And if you'd rather avoid fiddly knots and complicated rigging altogether, the Gamakatsu Swivel Shot is the answer.

The hook is permanently threaded onto a swivel, with a crimping loop at the lower end to accept a mono or fluorocarbon tag line. At the top eye, you can either knot on a fluorocarbon leader directly, or use crimping sleeves to attach a wire or titanium leader - making the whole rig pike-proof. Below the swivel, you simply clamp in whatever length of mono you need, with your weight at the end.

A useful benefit of the crimp loop sitting directly on the swivel is that you don't need specialist drop shot weights. Standard pear or ball weights work just as well and can be swapped in and out quickly. If the weight snags, the line pulls free from the crimp loop just as it would with a dedicated drop shot sinker - you lose the bottom section of the rig, but not the fish. The hook itself is fixed to the swivel eye so that it can rotate around the rig, yet always stands out at a clean 90° angle. This keeps your lure working at its best and puts an end to leader tangles. The Gamakatsu Swivel Shot Hook is chemically sharpened and razor-sharp. The small barb offers minimal resistance on the strike and holds fish securely. The hook is black nickel finished, making it highly resistant to corrosion.
