The Savage Gear Hop Popper Frog sits higher on the water than most popper frogs on the market, and that single characteristic changes what you can do with it. Combined with its relatively small mouth opening, this higher riding position makes a walk-the-dog action exceptionally easy to achieve. Point the rod tip down and work the lure back with light, rhythmic taps. With a little practice, you can get the same side-to-side movement with sharp turns of the reel handle alone, no rod taps needed. That keeps the lure tracking in a gentle zigzag through cover with a subtle pop rather than an aggressive splash. You can also fish it more aggressively, popping it almost on the spot - ideal when you've spotted a predator's holding position and want to provoke a reaction.
