A Long-Lasting Toad Imitation for Topwater Action and Beyond

The Savage Gear Tough Toad is a soft plastic available in a range of sizes and colours, built around a 3D scan of a real toad. The result is a hyperrealistic profile that gives predators very little to question. The material of choice is ToughTec TPE, which is 12x stronger than standard TPE and delivers significantly increased durability - the lure shrugs off multiple attacks and can be worked through dense vegetation without hesitation. As is typical with TPE, the material is buoyant, making the Tough Toad an excellent unweighted surface lure that fishes confidently right in amongst lily pads and other aquatic plants. The two curved paddle tails generate a powerful kicking action even on the lightest pull - a movement that perch, pike and largemouth bass respond to very well.

For a straightforward rig on an offset hook, the Savage Gear Tough Toad comes fitted with a belly and back slot, making it simple to set up weightless for surface and cover work - where adrenaline-fuelled topwater action is about as close to guaranteed as it gets. You can also rig it on a jig head to fish it a level deeper when the situation calls for it.

How to Fish It

Spring and summer are the prime times for the Tough Toad, when toads feature heavily on the menu for many predators. Fish it weightless on an offset hook through surface cover, or drop down a level by switching to a jig head.
