Westin has revised its W4 rod range, bringing a number of models into a second generation.

Soft Lure Rod in Its Second Generation

The Westin W4 Powershad 2nd is the second generation of this rod series, built for use with a fixed spool reel. The highly responsive and exceptionally sensitive Torayca carbon blank makes these rods ideal for jigging soft lures. You feel every movement, every contact with the bottom and - crucially - every take. Zander anglers will get a great deal out of them, but so will anyone who enjoys hunting predators on soft lures. Thanks to their medium-fast action, you can also work hard lures with confidence, particularly with the 2.40 m models. Both rods offered here are 2.40 m long but cover very different casting weight ranges. Both are well suited to zander, though the lighter model lends itself more to canals and slow-flowing waters - and works well when perch show up as a bonus catch - while the heavier version comes into its own on fast-flowing waters and with larger lures. Pike are well within reach too; the reserves are there.

A Handle Built for Long Sessions

So you can fish comfortably even after hours on the bank, the handle is fitted with UltraGrip EVA and an ergonomic Fuji VSS reel seat. This combination sits well in the hand and balances perfectly with the light blank. The Westin W4 Powershad 2nd is a rod you can rely on through a long session of soft lure fishing - cast after cast until that long-awaited take finally registers all the way down into the handle.
