The ZipBaits Trick Shad 70SP is fitted with the improved Mag-Drive weight transfer system. Rather than lead or steel balls, it uses a cylindrical MZ-19 weight made from a titanium alloy. This weight slides along a rail during the cast, shifting into the rear of the body where it hits a rubber stopper and generates extra casting acceleration. Once the lure enters the water, the weight glides back towards the front and is locked in place by a neodym magnet. As long as you work it gently or with a steady retrieve, the weight stays fixed - meaning the Trick Shad 70SP is completely silent when cranked or twitched softly. On a steady crank it produces a tight rolling action that already catches fish, but the real escalation comes when you twitch it. Work it with twitches and it kicks sharply to the side, then hangs still in the pauses - a combination perch find hard to ignore. But there is more. Get the lure down to depth, then twitch into slack line with the rod tip pointing upwards. This makes the bait reverse direction. It works best during pauses when the lure is hanging motionless in the water. It takes a little practice, but once you have it dialled in, this kickback trick becomes a further game-changer for provoking bites from specimen perch.
