A Specialist Jig Head for Hover Strolling

The Bite of Bleak Hover Jig Head Lead is a specialist jig head that combines the key elements of a Spine Rig and is built for techniques such as Hover Strolling and Mid Strolling. The lure is worked primarily in the mid-water column, animated with twitches, and one of its defining qualities is that it holds its position for a surprisingly long time - letting you work a hotspot thoroughly before moving on. You can also retrieve it with higher-frequency twitches at a slow, steady pace to search the water column from top to bottom. And while the technique is centred on mid water, you can let the lure drop all the way to the bottom and then wind it back slowly along the deck, giving it action as you go.

Rigging It Up

The Bite of Bleak Hover Jig Head Lead is rigged differently from a standard jig head. With a conventional jig head you push the hook through the centre of the soft plastic; with the Hover Jig Head you enter the hook through the top of the head. Push it in 1 to 1.5 cm back from the nose and pull it through the body. The pointed lead head is then pressed towards the nose, and it is this that creates the exceptional balance responsible for the rig's distinctive action.

Suitable Soft Lures

The Bite of Bleak Hover Jig Head Lead works best with small, slender soft plastics fitted with a Pintail, V-Tail or similar tail style. The key requirement is that they glide well - that is what makes the technique click. Soft lures with a classic paddle tail are poorly suited to this rig and are better fished on a conventional jig head.
