Shimano's range covers more than just top-end tackle - the brand also offers well-specified fixed spool reels at accessible price points, with several technologies carried over from higher-end models in the lineup.
Catana FE - Affordable Fixed Spool Reel in a Modern Design
The Shimano Catana FE is the latest version of the Catana series, brought up to date for 2022, and its most notable improvement is enhanced balance. This is achieved through G Free Body technology, which positions the rotor mechanism closer to the rod, improving casting performance and reducing fatigue so you can fish comfortably for hours on end. Casting is further improved by the AR-C aluminium spool - an optimised spool lip design that keeps tangles to a minimum while boosting casting distance. Like the G Free design, this is a technology Shimano also uses on reels from their higher price tiers. The Varispeed II oscillation system ensures an even line lay across the spool, which contributes further to overall casting performance. Smooth running throughout is delivered by 3+1 Shimano stainless steel ball bearings. The result is a well-priced fixed spool reel in a contemporary, attractive design that will appeal equally to beginners and cost-conscious anglers.
