MGL stands for Magnumlite - a line of fixed spool reels from Shimano defined by exceptionally low start-up resistance.
Miravel - the Entry Point to the MGL Series
The Shimano Miravel is Shimano's entry-level reel in the MGL series. It combines reduced weight with smooth, free-turning action, delivering outstanding performance relative to its price point. Low start-up resistance is the defining characteristic of the MGL series, enabling precise lure control throughout the retrieve. That makes the Miravel particularly well suited to finesse methods and light setups where accuracy of presentation is everything.
Advanced Technologies for Maximum Efficiency
The Shimano Miravel packs in a number of proven Shimano technologies. A G-Free Body constructed from Ci4+ composite material keeps the reel very light and well balanced, making it a natural fit for virtually any light setup that needs to sit comfortably in the hand. Several of Shimano's established drive technologies work together to deliver powerful, smooth cranking with a high level of running stability. The handle is threaded directly into the drive gear, sharpening the feel and precision of each turn. Hagane Gear and the X-Ship drive system underpin that smooth yet powerful handle performance, while Silent Drive contributes to the exceptionally fluid rotation that makes the reel so quiet in use.
The Miravel is just as capable on the cast as it is on the retrieve. Precise, even line lay combined with the AR-C spool delivers maximum casting performance - long, accurate casts followed by precise lure control, and a fight you can actually win. The Shimano Miravel features a waterproof, finely adjustable drag that supports you reliably in every situation, offering 3, 9 or 11 kg of drag force depending on the model. Coreprotect seals the line roller and anti-reverse mechanism against water ingress, protecting long-term performance and extending the reel's service life.

Use it in France for sea bass fishing, clean line laying, good brakes and a big plus point that it is resistant to salt water
