Built for Pike Fishing with a Fixed Spool Reel
The Shimano Yasei AX Pike Spinning rods are designed specifically for anglers who prefer to target pike with a fixed spool reel. These are powerful spinning rods that handle a wide range of lures and have the backbone to play even large pike with ease - yet they surprise you with their low weight. Gone are the days of the chunky, heavy pike rods of old. That low weight, combined with outstanding casting performance, means you can put in cast after cast for hours on end, until that moment when everything goes tight and the rod gets to prove its fighting credentials.
Technologies and Components
Both Shimano Yasei AX Pike Spinning rods are built around a High Modulus Full Carbon Blank incorporating Hi-Power X and Nano Alloy technologies. These two Shimano technologies work together to significantly reduce blank twist during casting and when playing fish. The blanks are fitted with Fuji Alconite K-Type rings, a guide setup that combines low weight, high durability and compatibility with both mono and braid. The quality inserts also minimise friction, contributing to exceptional casting distances - covering large areas of water is no issue with these rods. The reel seat is also from Fuji: the Fuji IPS reel seat, mounted on a custom EVA split grip. It is well suited to more powerful rods and delivers an excellent grip whether you're loading up for a big cast, working a lure, or battling a hard-running pike.
The Differences Between the Two Models
The Shimano Yasei AX Pike Spinning range comprises 2 models. Unlike many specialist rod ranges where the models differ only marginally, the gap between these two is significant enough to warrant a closer look at each:
Yasei AX Pike Spinning 22H
The Shimano Yasei AX Pike Spinning 22H is the shorter and lighter of the two, built with a Fast action. It measures 220 cm and has a casting weight of 20 - 60 g. This is the more versatile rod of the pair, well suited to a wide range of medium-sized lures - crankbaits and swimbaits in the appropriate weight class, for example. The high level of sensitivity allows you to work lures with particular precision, and the shorter length makes accurate casting noticeably easier. It comes into its own on smaller waters and wherever pinpoint accuracy matters - tight to snags, overhanging trees or other obstacles. The Shimano Yasei AX Pike Spinning 22H pairs best with a fixed spool reel in the 3000 size.
Yasei AX Pike Spinning 25EH
The Shimano Yasei AX Pike Spinning 25EH is the workhorse of the range. At 2.50 m long with a casting weight of 40 - 120 g, it still comes in at just 181 g. Shimano managed to keep the weight impressively low while giving the rod a Moderate action, making it very easy to handle without sacrificing the power needed to cast large lures and play the biggest pike. Pair it with a 4000 or compact 5000 size fixed spool reel, and you can work even the largest crankbaits and swimbaits with confidence.
