VMC Moontail Jigs

VMC isn't just a hook manufacturer - they also produce ready-to-fish jigs, and the Moontail Jig is a fine example of what they're capable of.

A Hair Jig for Zander and Perch

The VMC Moontail Jig is a hair jig developed by Al Lindner, an American sport angler with his own television show. Hair jigs are hugely popular in America for walleye - the North American equivalent of zander - and they work exceptionally well for zander and perch on this side of the Atlantic too, even if many anglers haven't yet caught on to this. That makes the Moontail Jig something of an insider tip.

Flat Head Design for a Fast Sink Rate

Al Lindner wanted a hair jig capable of reaching and working deeper spots effectively. The answer was a distinctively flat head profile that cuts through the water column, allowing the Moontail Jig to sink faster than comparable jigs of the same weight. The flat shape also makes the head appear visually larger, which gave room for oversized eyes. These provide an additional trigger for the fish and contribute directly to the outstanding catch rate of this lure.

Rolling Darting Action

Thanks to its oversized, flat head, the Moontail Jig produces a rolling darting action when jigged quickly - and that alone is enough to send predators into a frenzy. But the low weight range also means you can work it very slowly, which is where the bucktail really comes into its own. The slim profile and lifelike, gently pulsing movement have a way of convincing even wary, heavily pressured fish to commit. This is a lure that keeps on producing at hard-fished spots where conventional lures have already stopped working.
