The Westin W4 Metallic Trooper Baitcast LH is one of two baitcaster series from Westin available in a left-hand retrieve configuration. These reels deliver a combination of power, style and performance, and come in 4 sizes with different gear ratios - so there is a suitable model for every method and every target species, whether you are drop shotting for perch with finesse rigs, vertical jigging for zander, or working large jerkbaits for pike.

Innovative Features for Stable, Reliable Performance

During the development of the Westin W4 Metallic Trooper Baitcast LH, particular attention was paid to durability and strength. The reel is built around a robust, one-piece aluminium frame with a carbon side plate - and in the 300 sizes, a full aluminium frame throughout. This frame protects the precisely tuned GT-B gearing, which delivers a smooth, consistent retrieve. Several further features contribute to the stable and reliable performance of the reel while adding genuine practical convenience. The patented Fast Line Connector spool system lets you attach your line to the spool quickly and accurately. The Line View function, built into the fixing screw of the CNC handle, gives you a handy reminder of the line strength you have spooled up. Optimised casting performance comes from the CBS6 6-shoe centrifugal brake combined with a finely adjustable cast control, allowing you to dial in the baitcaster precisely for the lure weight you are using. The drag clicker on the star drag is another practical touch in action: it produces an audible sound when line is given, letting you play the fish with even greater control.

3 Different Greases for Lubrication

Westin has taken an equally thorough approach to lubricating the W4 Metallic Trooper Baitcast LH, selecting 3 different greases for different components. The braking system uses a grease with a particularly high melting point to withstand the heavy friction generated when a fish takes line. For the gearing, the priority is a grease that is neither too thick - which would compromise a smooth retrieve - nor too thin, which would cause it to wash out too quickly; the grease chosen here strikes exactly that balance. The anti-reverse bearings are lubricated with a cold-resistant grease to ensure full performance even at low temperatures.

SSG, MSG and HSG

The Westin W4 Metallic Trooper Baitcast LH is available in 3 gear ratio variants. SSG denotes the slow gear ratio models, HSG the high gear ratio models, and MSG sits in the middle - the compromise between fast and slow. The low-ratio SSG models are particularly well suited to high-resistance lures such as crankbaits, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, as well as any technique that calls for a slow, deliberate retrieve. The high-ratio HSG models are the right choice when you need a fast, snappy retrieve and want to pick up slack line quickly - as in jigging, twitching and jerking. Both SSG and HSG are available in size 51, 101 and 301. The all-round MSG sits between the two extremes for anyone who wants an especially versatile baitcaster: it is never the optimum choice for either extreme, but it performs well across both slow and fast retrieves. The MSG variant is available exclusively in size 201.
