The Big Brother of the Zanderkönig - Built for Pike

The Fisch & Fang Hechtkaiser came about through the regular pike catches made on the Zanderkönig. The goal was to develop a slightly larger hard lure that would target pike even more precisely and effectively. The result is this big brother of the Zanderkönig - at 16 cm and 40 g, it has the right proportions for dedicated pike fishing. It is not simply a scaled-up version of the Zanderkönig, though; this is a plug that took over two years of development before it was right in every respect.

Precise Action with Versatile Retrieve Styles

The Fisch & Fang Hechtkaiser was developed in collaboration with pike specialist Mathias Fuhrmann and renowned hard lure builder Gregor Babiarz. With a maximum running depth of 1 m, it is ideally suited to shallow waters and shallow sections of larger venues. On a steady retrieve it produces a strong rolling action, while twitching and jerking causes it to dart sharply to the side. Hard jerking in particular makes it break away very aggressively and flash strongly. Whatever retrieve style you choose, building in pauses is always a good idea - that is often when pike strike. With its precise and consistent action, the Fisch & Fang Hechtkaiser is a real pike-catching machine.

Quality Components and Excellent Build

The Fisch & Fang Hechtkaiser is made in Germany and is a fine example of quality Made in Germany craftsmanship. It features an extremely durable finish that reliably protects it against the sharp teeth of pike. The top-level construction in every small detail extends to the choice of high-quality components throughout. The treble hooks are VMC 7554 BN #2 trebles, selected because they do not interfere with the action and therefore contribute indirectly to the lure's effectiveness. When pike are being cautious and there are many missed takes, you can swap the front treble for a size #1 - the rear treble size should be kept as standard.

Fine-Tuning the Sink Rate with Your Leader

The Fisch & Fang Hechtkaiser is very precisely balanced, which means that your choice of wire trace also influences how it behaves in the water. When you use wire traces or titanium leaders with reasonably small snaps, it remains a floating hard lure. Choose a heavier leader material and a larger snap, and you can turn it into a suspending or even a sinking lure. Using heavy fluorocarbon, on the other hand, still allows it to float. This gives you the ability to adjust the sink behaviour to suit the situation.
