Fox Rage is one of the largest manufacturers of predator fishing lures and has a track record of bringing genuinely interesting new designs to the market. The Slick Shad is a slim soft lure aimed at perch, pike and zander - and it is well on its way to becoming a genuine classic.
The Slim High-Action Shad
Despite its slender profile, 7 cm body length and 2 g weight, the Slick Shad punches well above its size thanks to its high-frequency paddle tail action. Even at very slow retrieve speeds, those fine vibrations keep working on predators. At this size, it is a particularly effective option for perch and zander in summer after the closed season. In 2021, Patrick Marrable set what was then the record for the fastest full card at the YPC Bank - achieved largely on this lure. During that session, zander up to the mid-60 cm mark were taking this small soft lure.
The Slick Shad features an offset pocket on both the dorsal and ventral sides, allowing it to be rigged on small offset hooks for virtually snag-free presentation on Texas, Carolina and Slide rigs.
Another instantly recognisable feature is the reflective 3D eyes, which give predators a clear focal point to home in on during an attack.
The colour range includes both solid colour options and natural, translucent patterns - the latter can make a real difference when conditions are tough and fish are being selective.
How to Fish It
The Fox Rage Slick Shad in 7 cm really comes into its own on small jig heads in size 1/0 and on a drop shot rig. Thanks to the offset pocket, it also works well across a range of other rigs, including Carolina and Texas rigs.

Slick Shad 7 cm Perch UV
The Slick Shad 7 cm is a small but extremely catchy bait that is definitely worth the money. It not only has great running behavior, but is also so robust that it easily survives a few bites. For me, this bait is now indispensable in my tackle box when it comes to bass hunting.
