Fox Rage developed the Zander Pro Shad as a soft lure that has become an undisputed classic of predator fishing. The flagship of the Fox Rage predator range, it is among the most widely used soft plastics in the world for targeting zander, pike and perch.
The 10 cm Shad Is a True All-Rounder
As the name makes clear, the Zander Pro Shad was designed specifically for zander fishing. Zander are well known for preferring slender lures that attract attention with a high-frequency tail action - and this shad delivers exactly that.
At a body length of 10 cm, this Fox soft lure sits in a genuinely versatile size bracket. Decent perch, zander and mid-sized pike alike find it hard to ignore. Its weight of 8 g lets you fish it on light jig heads, yet it also presents well on heavier rigs - for example when working strong currents on large rivers.
What Makes the Zander Pro Shad Special
One of the key features behind this shad's track record is its stable yet flexible rubber compound. The material is highly durable and at the same time extremely supple, meaning it withstands repeated bites from a variety of predators while collapsing with minimal resistance on the take.
A second factor is its subtle rolling, flanking action, which closely mimics the natural movement of a small baitfish or juvenile fish drifting through the water without a care. That behaviour triggers predatory responses from zander, pike and perch.
The third element is the paddle tail, angled at 115 degrees. This geometry causes the tail to flutter rapidly and with high frequency even at slow retrieve speeds, generating exceptionally strong vibrations that few comparable soft lures of a similar size can match.
Recommended Rig and Hook Size
Fox Rage recommends pairing the Zander Pro Shad 10 with a jig head in size 3/0. At this size, the hook point exits in the front third of the body, leaving the rear two thirds completely free to work and maximising the shad's action.
If you're encountering short bites or particularly cautious predators, a stinger can make a real difference. A ready-made stinger system works best here.

The Zander Pro Shad in 10 cm in the color Hot Olive is one of my absolute favorite baits. This color has proven itself time and time again — not only with Pro Shad, but also with Fox Slick Shad, which I also fish in Hot Olive. I've already been able to get very good catches with both baits, especially for perch and walleye. I also associate a very special highlight with this bait: It even brought me my first sea trout from the Rhine. Hot Olive is an extremely universal color that works in almost all conditions — both in cloudy water and in clear water. That is exactly why this bait is a real all-rounder and always in my fishing box. A catchy, versatile and reliable bait that should no longer be missing for me when fishing for predators.
