Fox International has created a classic for zander fishing with the Zander Pro Shad - and pike are equally unable to resist it. Anglers worldwide rely on this soft lure for outstanding catches when targeting predators.
A Closer Look at the Zander Pro Shad 14
This version of the Pro Shad measures 14 cm in length - roughly 5.5 inches - making it an ideal choice when you're targeting large zander and pike selectively. It weighs 21 g, around 0.7 oz, distributed across a bulky body and a highly active paddle tail.
The tail sits at a 115-degree angle and generates very strong vibrations, which predators can pick up at considerable distance through their lateral line. What sets this shad apart is that the tail's action kicks in immediately as the lure hits the water and begins to sink.
All Zander Pro Shads use a highly flexible yet robust rubber compound, which keeps body roll to a minimum even during the most aggressive tail action. This swimming behaviour closely mimics the natural movement of small baitfish and juveniles drifting freely in open water. The 14 cm series comes in 20 different colours, giving you a well-rounded selection for every situation when fishing for large pike and zander.
The Right Jig Head and Stinger
Fox Rage recommends a jig head with a size 5/0 hook. Bear in mind that hook sizing can vary between manufacturers - Japanese hooks, for example, tend to run slightly smaller, so a size 6/0 may be the better fit in those cases.
You can also mount a stinger on the belly. Thanks to the lure's generous body volume, you can even thread it straight through the body using a fine baiting needle.
