Jackall Deraball

A Perfectly Round Wurfgeschoss

The Jackall Deraball is a compact swimbait that looks like a hybrid of crankbait and shad: spherical in shape, with large eyes and a paddle tail. That rounded body means plenty of bulk, and at 8.2 cm long it weighs in at a substantial 26.0 g. The result is a lure that casts extraordinary distances while remaining accurate enough to place into tight gaps and beneath overhanging bushes. Its shape also makes it ideal for skipping - something baitcaster fans will particularly appreciate.

A Straight Retrieve Does the Work

The Jackall Deraball is a very easy lure to work. Cast it out, wind it back - that is essentially all there is to it. Even on a straight retrieve, it produces a seductive wobbling action that draws predators out from cover. In its standard configuration it runs at just 0.05 - 0.3 m, making it very shallow-running and ideally suited to skinny-water spots. Add weight and it fishes deeper water just as effectively. Pike, perch and largemouth bass all take it freely, whether it is presented shallow or deep.

A Lure That Slides on the Leader

To convert bites effectively and keep the lure away from danger during the fight - particularly with pike - the Deraball is fitted with a through-wire system. This consists of a plastic tube running through the body, through which you thread your leader. The Jackall Deraball is not supplied ready-rigged; it comes as the bait plus a treble hook mounted on a swivel via a split ring. You tie your leader to that swivel after threading it through the lure. For a fully pike-proof rig, it makes more sense to thread a wire trace through the body instead, then attach it to the swivel. Once a fish is hooked, the lure slides up the leader away from the action, which protects it and reduces drop-offs. The swivel plays its part here too, allowing the hook to rotate a full 360 degrees - another factor that cuts the number of lost fish.
