Gunki Spinnaker / Spinnerbait

Few brands embody modern predator fishing quite like GUNKI. The manufacturer's range of rods, reels and tackle is defined by modern design, innovation, ease of use and durability - and those same qualities run through every one of their lures.

• The Spinnaker 7 g | 1/4 oz. in Detail

Spinnerbaits catch fish, but the finer details set the best apart from the rest - and the Spinnaker sits firmly at the top end of these metal lures. The lure weight is 1/4 oz., equivalent to 7 g, while the total weight including the blades comes to around 10 g. Overall length is approximately 10 cm. Compact it may be, but this is a tough, flexible spinnerbait built to last. The sharp Mustad size 2/0 hook is set firmly in a cleanly cast lead head and is ideally matched to soft plastics of around 7.5 to 8 cm. The size #3.5 willow leaf blade is attached via a high-quality swivel clipped through a soldered eye with an O-ring, so you can swap it out whenever you like.

• The Spinnaker 14 g | 1/2 oz. - the Facts

GUNKI rates the lure weight of this spinnerbait at 14 g. With both blades fitted, the Spinnaker 1/2 oz. reaches a total weight of around 19 g and an overall length of approximately 12 cm. The Mustad size 2/0 hook has a wide gap and gives a soft plastic of around 10 cm a secure seat inside the colourful skirt, which is made up of 24 individual strands. The combination of a size #2 Colorado leaf and a size #5 willow leaf generates an assertive pressure-wave pattern that predators can detect at considerable range.

• The Spinnaker 21 g | 3/4 oz. - a Closer Look

The jig head of the GUNKI Spinnaker 3/4 oz. weighs 21 g; with the blades and hardware included, the total weight rises to around 30 g. Overall length is approximately 15 cm. The large size #6 willow leaf sits at the upper section of the lure, while the smaller size #2 Colorado leaf runs freely on the approximately 0.9 mm stainless steel wire. The Mustad hook on the lead head is roughly size 4/0 and provides ample room for soft plastics of around 12 cm as a trailer.

Quality Components, Carefully Assembled

GUNKI has brought together the finest materials to build a spinnerbait that is both tough and productive. Only Mustad hooks are used - extremely sharp out of the packet and able to hold their point across many sessions. The shaft is cleanly cast and holds everything firmly in place. The skirt sits directly at the jig head and is locked into a groove with a wire. The 0.9 mm stainless steel wire is strong yet flexible, keeping the two blades, spacer beads and distance tube securely in position.

Stable, Consistent Running Behaviour

The shape of the lead head is what gives this spinnerbait its notably stable and consistent action. The centre of gravity sits significantly lower than on comparable spinnerbaits, which means contact with underwater obstacles barely throws it off course and it finds its running attitude again quickly during the fall. The open apex of the frame also allows the entire arm to pulse gently, adding a distinctive action of its own.
