Gunki Grouper

A Versatile Hybrid of Hard Lure and Soft Lure

The Gunki Grouper 180S is an 18 cm hybrid swimbait combining a hard ABS body with a soft rubber tail. It comes fitted with a paddle tail borrowed from the 17 cm Gunki G'Bump, which gives the lure a pronounced rolling action and handles a slightly faster retrieve without any fuss. If you want to ring the changes, the Gunki Grouper Spare Tail Set also includes a curly tail option. Swapping the tail section is straightforward: the screw system means you simply unscrew one tail and thread on the other in seconds.

2 x 2 Eyelets

Beyond the interchangeable tail, the Gunki Grouper 180S is a highly versatile lure thanks to its 2 x 2 eyelets. On the underside you'll find 2 eyelets for attaching clip weights. The front eyelet sits beneath the head and causes the lure to dive sharply head-first on the drop. The rear eyelet is positioned centrally and keeps the lure balanced; on a stop-and-go retrieve, the lure sinks slowly belly-down, the body fluttering slightly as it falls - a movement that regularly triggers a take. The other 2 eyelets are for attaching your wire trace. The front eyelet at the mouth is designed for a fast, shallow retrieve: crank the lure and it rises towards the surface, making it ideal for working over weed. The second eyelet on top of the head suits a slow, slightly deeper retrieve: the Grouper holds its depth without rising, letting you work it at a very leisurely pace to tempt even the most hesitant pike into committing.

Clip Weight Included and Rotating Treble Hooks

The Gunki Grouper 180S comes supplied with a Gunki Clip Weight of 4 g. Without it, the lure runs at an extremely shallow depth of approximately 10 cm; fit the weight and it reaches a running depth of around 60 cm. You can also use heavier weights to push it deeper still. In terms of retrieve style, the Grouper 180S is uncomplicated - a steady retrieve or a stop-and-go approach both produce results reliably. To ensure takes are properly converted, the lure is fitted with rotating treble hooks mounted on swivels that allow a full 360° rotation, making it far harder for pike to shake the lure free.
