Small Dorade / Sunfish Imitation

The Fishus Esparrall at 7.6 cm is a compact imitation of the dorade, a common prey fish for saltwater predators such as sea bass, bluefish, and mahi-mahi. In freshwater, its profile closely resembles a sunfish - a species that regularly features on the menu of larger predators including largemouth bass, pike, and zander, and one that turns up in a fair number of waters. This small swimbait produces a rolling action on a straight retrieve and breaks subtly to the side when twitched. With both hooks fitted it sinks; remove one hook and it becomes buoyant. That alone gives you a lot of flexibility - but there is more.

An Adjustable Tail That Can Even Be Removed

The Fishus Esparrall features a tail that rotates 90 degrees, switching its position from horizontal to vertical and changing the lure's behaviour in the process. With the tail fin set vertically - as on a real fish - it works best at normal retrieve speeds. Twitched, it breaks sideways and shows off its gliding properties. In the horizontal tail position, fish it very slowly or twitched; during pauses it glides down towards the bottom like a dying fish. Beyond that, you can remove the tail entirely and swap it for a spinner blade, a soft tail, or a feather to vary the action further. The Fishus Esparrall fishes equally well on a spinning rod or a baitcasting rod.
