Deps New Silent Killer 175

Swimbait with a Soft Silicone Skin

The Deps New Silent Killer 175 is a two-piece swimbait built around an ABS plastic body wrapped in a silicone skin. This combination of materials has several effects that work in favour of both action and fish-catching ability. Between the silicone skin and the ABS body runs a channel through which water flows during the retrieve. This water exits at the joint between the two body sections and strikes the rear part, generating additional turbulence in the water. Fish have an extraordinarily sensitive lateral line and can detect even subtle disturbances of this kind. Beyond that, the silicone skin also produces a different sound profile and a particularly lively swimming action. In a conventional two-piece swimbait, the rear section knocks against the front section with every waggle of the tail - producing an audible clacking sound. Here, the silicone skin absorbs that impact noise entirely. At the same time, the silicone gives slightly on contact and then springs back, effectively accelerating the rear body section and delivering a noticeably more intense tail action.

A Combination of Knocking and Vibrating

The inside of the Deps New Silent Killer 175 has also been given careful attention. Deps have fitted the Spring Weight Micro Vibe System - a spring anchored in the head section with a weight attached to its free end. When you work the lure, this weight swings and produces a subtle, silicone-dampened knocking each time it contacts the inner wall. During pauses, the weight continues to oscillate on the spring, sending out gentle vibrations that predators can detect. This combination of a soft knock on the move and quiet vibrations at rest is conditioning-breaking, drawing strikes from wary pike and other large predators. A big bait for difficult waters.

Built for Big Fish

At 17.5 cm and a solid 70 g, the Deps New Silent Killer 175 is a substantial lure, and it is highly effective at tempting large, powerful predators. To handle them reliably, it carries 2 extremely strong and robust size 1 treble hooks - not only tough but needle-sharp. When you are targeting pike and zander in particular, that sharpness matters: both species have hard mouths, and a keen hook point is what gets the hook to set. The build quality throughout is typical of the Japanese maker Deps - exceptionally robust. The polycarbonate diving lip shrugs off contact with wood and stone without complaint.

Exchangeable Weight

Another notable feature of the Deps New Silent Killer 175 is the exchangeable weight fitted to the underside of the front body section. This weight sits in a recess in the ABS body and is concealed beneath the silicone skin. With the right tool and a degree of mechanical confidence, you can remove it to alter the running behaviour of the lure. By taking off the diving lip and adding a dedicated tuning weight, you can convert the New Silent Killer 175 into a New Slide Swimmer 175.
