Pintail with a Powerful Rolling Action

At first glance, the OSP DoLive Stick looks like a cross between a pintail shad and a worm. Once rigged, though, it reveals its remarkable action. Thanks to a higher salt content in the lower half of the body, it is exceptionally well balanced, producing a striking rolling action with a vibrating tail on a wide range of light rigging methods. That action is already visible on the jig, particularly with light weights, but it truly comes into its own on weightless rigs. Rigged weightless on an offset hook or hooked wacky style, it rolls belly-first towards the bottom while the tail vibrates enticingly. You get the same effect on a Carolina rig, where it fires up that action after every twitch. Mount it on a jig head and the rolling action diminishes as the weight increases, but the tail action stays - making it a very productive option for perch and zander when jigged classically as well. Once you have the fish pinpointed, you can also work it on a light to medium jig head or a Texas rig, holding it tight to the bottom and hopping it along slowly with a quivering rod tip. In this mode, it vibrates intensely along its entire body. There is more: rigged on an offset hook - whether weightless or on a belly weighted offset hook - you can fish it as a soft jerkbait. It darts erratically in every direction, left, right, up and down, and drives perch wild, especially in summer. Finally, two further rigging options round out its repertoire: a classic drop shot rig and a weightless wacky rig, hooked through the middle and twitched through the water - both solid choices for getting the most out of the OSP DoLive Stick.

The 3 Markings and Their Effects

The OSP DoLive Stick features 3 small markings near the head. These become especially relevant when fishing weightless on a straight offset hook, as the position of the hook through the body directly affects how the lure sinks.

First Marking from the Head

With the hook passed through the first marking, the centre of gravity sits towards the head, causing the DoLive Stick to sink at a slight forward-angled tilt towards the bottom. This produces a particularly pronounced rolling motion with strong tail vibration.

Second Marking from the Head

Through the second marking, it sinks vertically to the bottom. The body holds a stable horizontal position, the rolling action becomes more subtle, and the tail vibration remains largely the same.

Third Marking from the Head

The third marking shifts the centre of gravity further towards the tail. The sink rate becomes more irregular - the lure can even slide backwards slightly. The rolling motion is concentrated in the rear half of the body, with only a hint of movement at the front, while the tail twitches unevenly, broken up by the body's rolling motion.

One key feature is that you can pass the hook through from either direction: head-first, with the bend of the offset hook sitting in the marking, or the other way round, with the hook shank inserted from the tail end and the bend sitting in the marking. The effect of this reversed rigging is a backwards glide - extremely useful when you want to work tight to features such as jetties, houseboats or overhanging bushes with pinpoint accuracy.

Also Excellent as a Trailer

Many anglers like to add a trailer to their spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, and the OSP DoLive Stick fits that role well. It also works as a trailer on skirted jigs, where it is particularly effective at triggering perch.
